Revolution

Latin revolutio — a turning around. From revolvere — to roll back. Originally an astronomical term — the revolution of planets, their return. The political sense — a turning over of the existing order — borrowed the astronomical metaphor.

Revolutions are named and framed retrospectively by whoever writes the history. The American Revolution is celebrated; other revolutions are called coups or insurrections by those who oppose them. 'Revolutionary' is used to sell both political change and consumer products — often simultaneously.
